Alfred Sisley (1839โ1899)
Alfred Sisley was a British-born French Impressionist painter celebrated for his luminous landscapes. Born in Paris to English parents, he trained alongside Monet, Renoir, and Bazille. A dedicated plein air artist, Sisley focused almost exclusively on capturing the changing light and atmosphere of the French countryside, especially along the Seine and Loing rivers. Despite lifelong financial struggles, he remained one of Impressionismโs most consistent and pure practitioners. His serene, light-filled works gained widespread recognition after his death from throat cancer at age 59.
